How to Play Guitar Solos
Published on by

Learning how to play guitar solos is the most exhilarating part of playing for me. I began learning guitar at the age of fifteen. There is nothing more exiting than buying your first guitar and getting it home from the shop, then trying to play a guitar solo of your favourite song. Guitar soloing is very different for everybody, people have individual tastes but tastes aside the basics must be learnt to become a proficient lead guitarist.

Guitar soloing is as simple as plays a series of licks. A lick is a series of note played in progression that sound good. For a guitar soloist, scales will be their best friend. Scales can be fun. Don’t think of them as boring. Learning scales is the key to becoming a great guitar soloist. One of the first and easiest scales to learn is the minor Pentatonic scale, it has only five notes. This scale can be used with many different types of music genre. The blues scale is another easy scale to learn. I would recommend to record yourself while playing your scales then practice all week and listen to yourself and see how much you have improved.

There are many different techniques to guitar soloing, picking, hammer on and pull offs, Tremolo bar, guitar shredding. All these techniques produce a different type of sound from the guitar. Hammer on and pull offs is how it sounds, you use your chords fingers to hammer on the string and a pull off is to remove you finger from the string while plucking the string as removing it. The tremolo bar changes the pitch of the note or chord which can be used in conjunction with the hammer on and pull offs. Guitar shredding is playing a passage of notes very fast, which is usually sweep-picked arpeggios, diminished and harmonic minor scales.

There are many aspects on how to play guitar solos i have only written on a basic overview. There are many learning course and videos you can buy online now, just do your research and choose one that suits yourself.
